Paint your face, your heart

We all have walls. Some of us have metaphoric ones, and yet there are some of us with real, plaster and wood surfaces. Some of us have more than four of them, but four generally makes a room, and a lot of us have those.

Here’s a suggestion: take one of those boring white walls that you have and paint it. Stay with me. I want you to take that giant wall (helps if it’s rectangular) and paint it like your favorite flag. I’m even going to suggest three flags, in order of difficulty, that might appeal to you: Italy, Japan, and California. I would personally go for the California flag, because it means the most to me and, I think, looks the coolest. But I might outsource the bear. I’m no artist.

You wouldn’t have to treat that wall like some sort of shrine, there could still be furniture stacked in front of it, and pictures. Pictures would really add to this.

But you’d have this incredibly powerful symbol, hiding like a giant in your room, watching over you. It is just a symbol, sure, but symbols are important, especially if they mean something to you.

Oh, as an aside, please don’t do this with the American flag. It is tacky. I’m sorry to say it, but it is. Or the Confederate flag for that matter. Then we can’t be friends. I guess maybe I should publish a list of flags I approve of, and then you can make your decision armed with that information? Nah, it’s got to mean something to you. That’s what matters.
