Tesla Dreams

I can't get over Sean's idea from the other day. The one about being able to move your lighting options around the room. But this isn't a repeat, this a dreamscape version of that. Bigger, crazier, more like Tesla's death-ray dream.

Tesla spent a lot of his life trying to create wireless power transfer. Instead, he ended up making things that were more akin to mad scientist death-rays.

But I think we can find a way to do something like this functionally. Especially using Sean's basic idea.

So let's say you have a lamp. It's base is a special type of magnet or something. Then you have a number of surfaces all over your house. Your fridge, desk, nightstand, bathroom. So the lamp when you set it down (or whatever appliance you want) magnets onto the surface it closes the circuit and give you the power. If could even have a storage cell so that you could carry the lamp around like a lantern. But the key here is that your house will have a really simple sort of many location power source. Like any other plug only better. Your entire fridge could be a power source, but it wouldn't turn on except with the precise circuit closing of the device that wants the power (ideally not your hand).

If we want to simplify, how about we just change the basic plug structure to this sort of flat magnet that, you know, you can't jam a fork into and chance killing yourself. Dude.

So yeah. Power, power everywhere and not a drop to drink.
