All computers should be built with the ability to connect to the internet of their own accord. I’ve thought of this in several forms. Obviously ever computer could just have those highspeed wireless cards in them. But that would cost shit tons of cash per months. What I would rather see if one of two things. Well, one thing really, the other would be workable if necessary.
First the workable but lame. The computer should be able to have a sort of “on call” internet. Like if you really need to check your mail you should be able to connect for a brief period of time for a fee. Like you could sign on just to look up IMDB to solve the feverish debate that you and your girlfriend won’t stop arguing about. So you could pay by the minutes.
What I would really love to see tho’ would be a short packet bursts of internet. Sort of like text messaging, which costs nothing in Europe because it is packet burst type info and totally doesn’t take up space on the connections. So the internet is a little more heavy duty than that, but still. Let’s say you just want it to burst in your newest messages. All that would take is sort of a snap shot of your inbox. You could totally teach programs like Gmail to give you a bit of info like that on request. So first you burst in on the inbox. And then once more for the specific message. All the pathway stuff and figuring out where to go is done off line. Burst of info, off. Look at info. Burst again.
This would work brilliantly for sending mail. You could compose offline and just have it send out. Or for documents, like this one here that I can’t post because I don’t have the internet right now.
