So you know those way old school leashes kids used to have attached to them by their parents who, presumably, were worried about losing them? Well this idea is going to make those even more pointless.
All it is is a little GPS unit that either goes in their shoe or on a necklace, etc. We're stopping short of implanting them with something. That seems creepy and we should probably start some legislation against it. Then that signal gets tracked on a GPS unit.
I'm not thinking of this for everyday use. Instead, it would be for somewhere like Disneyland. I think most parents would shell out an additional $50 for the piece of mind that if a kid were lost they'd be able to electronically find them. Especially when the big bucks are already flying out for admission and food.
I fully recognize the darkside to this idea. And some its flaws. The device could be removed, sure. But isn't having any help better than no help? And of course a lot of parents are freakishly paranoid meaning they might want to use this thing all the time. That's probably a real bad idea. Kids need their freedom.
But in a busy-ass place like Disneyland? Or the mall? You know, somewhere a kid could easily wander off and get lost. Now all parents have to do is whip out their little locator and follow the blinking dot that is Jimmy.
I don't think my own parents would have EVER gone this route. They just did a good job of keeping track of me. However, I know for a fact they misplaced me once or twice. Ok, I don't know that for a fact. I'm just guessing.
This is just an aid to help in the finding process.
And yes, I fully admit this may already exist. It really ought too.
