So I had an idea for today all written out and then I had this idea and just had to push that other one back. And then I saw that this man not only already had this idea but also made one.
But I like this idea and I'm going to continue having it on the page in front of whether or not it already exists.
Obviously you know from the title that I'm speaking of the typewriting keyboard. A keyboard that is an old typewriter with the exact feel of the keys and the look and everything. So the guy who actually built one brings up some good points. Typewriters don't have the same keys we're used to these days. No backspace to speak of, certainly no F keys and nothing in the way fancy multimedia controls.
What I'm thinking is that some ingenious high end consumer goods company could put together a real slick typewriter--made brand new--that contains all the good ol' keys we need now a days, maybe even integrate a touchpad style mouse somewhere on the thing. And quite certainly it must be wireless.
Now that we have unlimited flat screen options, you should easily mount a screen for this thing on your wall, or the side of your desk, or really wherever.
What I really want this thing to do tho', for it really to be rad, it needs to be both a typewriter and a keyboard. There could be a big switch on it--on my typewriter there is already a big switch that changes you from black to red ink--that would change you from digital to analog mode. Slip in a piece of paper--say that Passport application that needs you to type in the fields provide (I know that this is why editable PDFs were invented, but shut up)--and go. And what if you could do both at once? You're writing your newest blog entry and at the same time typing it out on a real live sheet of paper. And hey presto you've got yourself a "printer." Plus this mode would be hilarious to see the output of. You know how many mistakes you make every time you type a word? Yeah. Not on a typewriter you don't.
Man. Who knows. Fantasy or fantastic?
