FriendFlix

Does anyone realize how perilously close to the end of year one we are? Very. That's how close we are.

So I think we can all agree that TV shows on DVD's are amazing. Beyond amazing. They've made life better in no uncertain terms.

Netflix is also great. I've netflixed (you may use a similar service with a different name) some great shows like The Wire and Carnivale, etc.

The only downside to this process is that I can't share these shows with my friends the way I could if I owned the DVD's themselves. But other than loaning them out to folks, I really don't need to own them.

So what is a boy to do?

Netflix needs to offer a new goddamn service, that's what. Let's go through an example...

I want Brother Nate to watch The Wire, but he doesn't have Netflix. I don't want to shell out $80 to purchase a season so I set aside my next four "rentals" from Netflix and ask that they be sent to Nate. I'm liable and responsible. I decide what those four rentals are (discs 1-4 of The Wire in this case). All he has to do is watch them and send them back when he's done.

It puts pressure on the friend to actually watch the show and not keep it for a year and a half as if often the case when people borrow things. If they keep it, you can' rent movies AND it's costing you money. So you could only do it with people you trust.

But when you say, "you should watch this," wouldn't it be nice to say, "do you want me to Friendflix it for you?"

This is such a small little thing but maybe people would watch more good television and movies if this was available. And that isn't bad, right?
