Multi--Mixed-Media

In part I am having this idea because this year at Aught Empire we're going to try to expand and experiment. One of the experiments we're going to try is implementing some of our favourite ideas. So with that, today's idea:

A work of art that is made up of complete pieces of art from a number of different genres. Say you have novel A. You would also have movie A and album A, as well as maybe painting A and graphic novel A. Maybe you could think if it as a cycle. For me what is at issue is telling the same basic "story" through different media. And I don't really mean even telling the same "plot" or "story" really, but something more like conveying the same set of themes or ideas, the same basic it.

Initially I had this idea with the notion of doing it myself, making several different media version of the same basic "story," record, novel, film. I mean like adaptations, but intentional ones that actually use or exploit the things that the specific media is good for or good at. LIke a film is necessarily going to have to conceive of a story differently than a novel does, similarly a graphic novel and a short story. And if these differences aren't used consciously you can get a bad adaption. But in this practice you'd be taking those very things on on purpose, cultivating the art piece specifically for the medium.

Anyways I think this idea would be even cooler done by a large group of people, because you could get all these different perspectives in on the ground floor. Your art would actually have a specific community from its very inception.

Its coming folks.
