I want to start raising chickens (and pigs and other farm animals excluding cows) in very tall, multi-storied buildings. You might call them skyscrapers.
I'm told this can be done. So why aren't we doing it?
You wouldn't even need to finish the buildings. Just erect the basic structure, minus insulation and windows and build a place for the animals to get out of the weather on each floor and you're in business. I don't even think you'd need a way for them to get from floor to floor, though I guess that might be nice. You could even build the flooring in such a way that there was natural grass available to them.
So why do this? Well, you'd be growing your food in an urban environment, something that we don't really do now but could be come vital to our existence in the future. As for the present day, you could save a lot on shipping. And you consumers might be willing to pay more for something so fresh. This is going to have to be a serious money making proposition for you because I'm sure gaining access to an entire skyscraper isn't cheap.
Oh man, I didn't even think about the possibility of the animals falling out. We should probably address that.
