Office role playing game

I can't believe this hasn't been done already.

And I'm not referring to the oft-hilarious NBC sitcom of the same name when I say, "the office."

I am referring to the institution which is mocked by that very same television show.

Every setting and cast of characters seems to exist as a role playing game for those inclined to take part.

But not one for a generic cubicled world.

Why would anyone want to play that, you ask? Well they might not. But some people might find the idea of playing a game close to their own life, but also allowing for a bit of fantasy, rather refreshing. When the boss yells at you in the RPG, you have options not afforded to you in the real world.

You ponder, isn't that kind of like second life? I would argue that it may serve a similar function, but it is entirely different. The Office RPG would best be played face to face. You would want to capitalize on that human interaction. Maybe even with co-workers.

And maybe you aren't the best accountant in your office, nor do you possess the desire to become that person. But with a few roles of the die that lofty yet ambiguos goal could be accomplished in an afternoon. And if you remove some of those hurdles, ambition becomes a lot more appealing.

I haven't given much thought to what the archtype characters would be, but use your imagination. i think you pick your job, your gender, and your race. Maybe even your physical appearance and wardrobe. All things that would affect how the game played out.

someone recently accused me of not actually being a waitress. to which i replied "you're right. i actually just spend many hours a week playing 'fantasy restaurant,' where i sit in a room with a lot of people and pretend to be a waitress."

you probably would have said something a little more witty. but after reading this, i was reminded of that idea.
