People make a lot of to do lists. Let me rephrase that. I make a lot of to do lists. But when I'm making them I always confuse myself by putting things like "Buy tomatoes" right next to things like "Conceive and write a novel" which is in turn right next to "Attempt to remain happy with some level of consistency." The category types are far too broad. So my idea won't be do come up with some ingenious program to code and properly sort your reminders. That would be far too...internety. No, I'm going to say two things to you.
1) Get some different colored sharpies and label them with the type of goal/task you intend to be there purpose (you can label only in your head, or as a legend in the corner of your list)
2) Really dig on those difference in category type. That is where your mind is right now, roll with that. But think about what them means. You may even start to see that the colors appear in some sort of pattern. Like when you have a lot of red (practical get it done today items) that you also have a couple green (remind yourself that you're rad and that your personal value doesn't depend on the completion of red items...items).
So it's a pretty simple notion. And maybe it will give you a chance to get through your to-do's a little more pleasant.
Oh and make sure you write nice things that you need to do for yourself. Cause you do. Or you're screwed. So be nice to you.
