I keep fighting the urge to post changes to public policy on here. I don't know if those really count as ideas, you know? Maybe they do. I guess this should just be a warning that you might see some of those kinds of subjects discussed in the near future. And I apologize for that.
....
Oh what to do with all those empty water bottles. They're falling out of fashion quite quickly since they require a lot of energy to produce, ship, and then recycle (which I'm told can only be done once anyway).
Plus they take up a lot of room in the meantime. Wouldn't it be handy if we could reduce the size of these bottles prior to recycling? It seems like it would benefit everyone involved. Back in the day it seemed like everyone had one of those aluminum can crushers. Why'd we give up on that idea for the plastic ones?
Now, I did a quick search for "plastic water bottle crusher" and the best anyone has come up with is to put the bottle with some water in the microwave and create some kind of vaccuum. Yeah...that's not gonna work.
Why can't we get some kind of Iron Maiden type device (I looked for a picture of what I'm talking about but that band made it impossible to find the device I'm looking for) that attaches to our recycling cans? Before we drop the bottle in we just give it a quick smash and then it takes up 1/4 the room. It would need to somehow pop the bottom off so the thing could actually get flat. But this doesn't sound that complicated.
This means less trips by the trash guy, less storage before it gets recycled, and a winner for all of us.
