When I was a kid, my mom moved us next door to this awesome nature center. We had gone there all the time when we didn't live next door, so she figured why not eliminate the commute.
Well, they threw all kinds of fun events for kids. They'd let you play with the animals they had (as much as you could...I mean, they had coyotes.) and they'd organize hikes and stuff. It was fun.
I remember this one day , among other things, they were teaching kids how to build birdhouses. But there was this crazy raffle where you had to win a chance to build a birdhouse. I guess they didn't have enough people to show everyone. But like I said, they had a lot going on.
Anyway, I didn't get a chance to build a birdhouse, BUT I did somehow win the birdhouse they were using as an example. Screw all those other kids. They had to build their own....I just got the kickass finihsed project.
This thing was rad. Hand-made, totally rock solid. For a while, I used it as a fort for toys. Then I think I put in the closet. Eventually I threw some bird seed in the thing and let the birds play with that.
But it was rad to have, so I suggest everyone build a birdhouse. Look, I even found instructions: http://www.iola.com/birdhouse.html.
Once you're done, you can bedazzle it. If you're into that sort of thing...
