So this may be a bit of stretch, since I actually know of someone who did this, making it not really my idea. But I would argue that many of the ideas we've thrown out were conjured up by someone else at some point in history. And this instance, since I am suggesting you do it, it is wildly different. Who really cares about intellectual property, anyway?
So if you have hardwood floors, or can acquire hardwood floors, this may be for you. All your furniture, I mean all of it, would be built upon casters. Bookcases, couches, coffee tables, chairs, bed, everything...on wheels. The thought being here that you would have the ultimate adjustable room. Everything could be wheeled around at your whim. Think about how cool (and easy) it would be to have a different layout everyday? If you wanted. Or you could just push everything against the walls and have a wrasslin' match.
Some potential pitfalls: First off, you'd need some steady casters. Second, certain geographic locales are prone to the very ground they stand on shaking like a little leaf in the breeze. Thus, top heavy furniture on tiny little wheels isn't exactly "safe". Thirdly, you might scratch the hell out of your floor. I say "who cares?" to all three. You're probably renting.
