I had this thought while watching a baseball game the other day and in the time I've been considering it, I have seen it spewed forth from two other pens...or keyboards, as it were. But I'm posting it anyway. These established writers who unintentionally stole my thunder didn't give it the proper respect.
So the idea is to hook up professional athletes to a device that will measure their heart rate, while they're playing their sports, and then to broadcast this information to the public. Either live or over a telecast.
I think this would be endlessly entertaining. You could see who was the coolest in the clutch, and who freaked out. It might be cool to see how well those players do, too. Maybe the nervous rookie right fielder keeps coming up with the big hit, even though his heart rate is right around 5,000. And maybe that calm, cool, and collected WNBA player is so calm because she doesn't care...and keeps clanking critical free throws.
This would be really fun to monitor and it would totally change the way we few sports. It might make us see athletes as more human...or more like robots. I haven't decided.
