I'm feeling a fire underneath me again I think. This is a running theme. That theme is built to last. Today's episode: clothes.
I wouldn't deign to quote Brad Pitt in Fight Club on the subject of leather pants. I don't like leather pants. But I do like the idea of clothes that are made sound with the idea of lasting. For one I think people should think about picking clothes with way in the future of us in mind. A plus, you get to spend far more money, cause you're investing in something. Taking it seriously. Wearing it down and out.
But what I really want to talk about is tailors. Two fold tailors, both the fixers and the off the bat, make it better men. We should be using these people with their admirable skills and knowledge. We should use them and more people should think about becoming them. You could have your own personal tailor. It isn't hard. And maybe it costs a little more, but it is totes cheaper than buying whole new wardrobes every season. Just imagine how fashionable you'll be when your clothes actually fit you right. And think about how rad it will be to have something personalized, localized, awesomeitized.
I think the hardest part of this isn't finding a tailor, or considering the costs, but actually finding a shirt or pants or anything that is actually worth keeping up this way. We've been squowzen (yes I'm comfortable with both this word and this spelling) down into these ridiculous mass marketed crap factories like Target, or what is maybe worse, the over-priced mass marketed crap factories like Diesel, where you pay minimum one arm and maybe a stray toe for something that will be so out of fashion in a year that you'll be caught wondering what one could possibly do with neon green parachute pants save tying them to a rafter and praying they were at least well enough made for a quick drop. Okay, over the top...sorry. I'm still bitter about the Banana Republic slacks that choose to turn into tatters by like the end of week one. What, they weren't made yard work?
So, I guess today's lessons are buy to last and repair what is broken. Waste is bad. More jobs on the backend.
