And you haven't even heard of it, which is ever better. This is for the planning ahead type and not for everyone. But it will change your life. You know airport shuttles that pick you up at your door and how rad that is? That is cause airlines and airports know how important that is for you to fly with them. What if bars and cities new how important it was for you to be able to get home at night while drunk without resorting to breaking laws or the bank?
Here is what is on my mind. A shuttle picks you up at the corner of 18th and Valencia at 2:45am because at 8pm that night you called the company and told them that was where you would be. And then they take you to Oakland (across the Bay for those unacquainted with the area) for about 5 bucks. So the basic premise is planning ahead, which already isn't for everyone. But for those of use who it is for, this idea about be a god send. I am positive that it is fiscally feasible and advisable for a company to set up these nightly routes and to provide them at an assured cheap price. Let's say 20 people are hanging out in the Mission and live in the East Bay. If you know the route ahead of time and organize the most efficient route and each of them pay 5 bucks, you are bound to turn a profit. Logic suggest that you might need five or six of them to cover cost. And logic also suggests that you'll get more like 20 or 30 and that will more than make up for the times when you only have two or three.
A quick summary if this missed the point at all: if you can plan ahead when you need to be picked up from and where, a taxi company can theoretically come up with a scheme to make money based on carting a number of people around for well diminished costs. (e.g. you pay less, they make more.) This can work in all different sorts of formats. And all it takes is you figuring out where you want to be picked up in advance. It may take a little longer, but it also may save you 20 or 30 bucks if you need to take a long trip. And the best part is that if this sort of company could take off, they could guarantee a max price and eat whatever cost on longer trips for less people without having to charge the individual. Genius. I say we rally somehow.

Talk to the guy who started Bill's Bus. But make sure its not gross like Bill's can be. And make it not a bus, that somehow encourages grossness. But it is something that can definitely be done.
