I woke up this morning to the grey skies of Goonies-era Oregon, ubiquitous and drippy. Of course I was in San Francisco, which also has days like that. But my memory went back to a morning I once had in Eugene at the crack of dawn listening to Miles Davis and hanging out on the dew drop grass eating breakfast and probably drinking some tea and thinking I was Jack Kerouac, even tho' I'd probably not read any Kerouac yet. In my faulty memory I'm also drinking coffee, but I didn't drink coffee back then. But what is this, a diary blog? Onwards...
So I was thinking these things and I saw a group of 20's-ishers taking photos and playing on the balustrade in the park by my house. They were fully outfitted and having at it at this wee hour of six and forty-five. And I know many of your will have none of this, but I have an idea...
The morning is an under-utilized part of the day in urban environs. I'm thinking it might seriously be the last bastion of space for you to be free in, under-marketed and left alone. It is the time of city sidewalk washers and cafe hours. I'm not saying there is that much to do, but what there is to do feels like a whole different world than the city does at any other time.
What I'm thinking is getting a group of folks together on an occasional morning (the beauty if that even weekend-day mornings are totally vacated) and just sort of traipsing about in pseudo-park lands and the burgeoning day. I'm not quite sure what types of adventures you can concoct, but I'm sure there are more than a few. And they could sort of end up with a nice breakfast out (which you could totally get there before any of the rush and languorously take up the space of the roll-out-of-bed-at-the-crack-of-noon-er crowd).
So yeah, maybe only every other weekend or something. Pick one day, get up at (dare I say it?) six-ish and hit the street. You can even plan ahead and have the equivalent carbo-load hang out the night before, but something like get-a-good-night-sleep loading. Maybe you eat cookies and watch a movie and drink milk or something? And then get up and get on that day.
And the best part will totally be mid-day naps. Which, occasioning such, is really the point of any good idea.
