How have I not posted this yet. Have I posted this already? We are a stressed out people. Something has to give.
So in the past there were sanatoriums, where you could just go to chill out, recover and just all around let go of it for awhile. Sure it was for the privileged, but if such a thing exists today I'm willing to bet it is only for the uber-privileged. Maybe this is because before it was addressing a serious health risk. I'm under the impression that back in the day everyone was always on the verge of death anyways and on little fright or too much stress and you'd just sort of keel over. That or take the waters somewhere.
But I'm saying here is that I believe we are on the verge of having a serious stress meltdown as a society. I don't know if it is tomorrow or twenty years away. But literally something has to give. The general working population works far more than they can possibly maintain. So I'm thinking there needs to be some sort of check-out, sabbatical system built in better. And I don't just mean time off, but actually a place where there is some really heavily induced relaxation. Like, you don't have to cook your own meals, or clean, or worry about where the money is coming from (because I assume you'll dole it up before you go--sort of like a cruise but not locked away on a boat full of old people).
If these do already exist I have to believe they aren't exactly what I have in mind. And I also have to argue that this they aren't currently in vogue or even culturally acceptable that they couldn't possibly exist as I would like them to.
What I'm really getting at, I guess, is that I would appreciate not being judged too harshly when I need to check in to some sort of "wellness" center. I expect that I am simply ahead of the curve in my need for this. Y'all will be following closely at my heels.
