Handheld Diagnostics

I would hope this would not increase the cost of electronics, but I suppose it could. I am prepared to take this risks.

Things occasionally stop working. This can include almost everything, but I am speaking specifically of electronics such as cameras, ipods, tvs, etc.

Borrowing an idea from cars, could we not add a removable memory device that logs every time a device is turned on, if it works, etc? The device would be removable so that if something did stop working you could remove the memory device, insert it into the usb port on your computer, and find out what happened. And then you could send that information to repair people who would have a better idea of how to help you.

You'd basically be getting a diagnostic report for your electronics. And while you might not be able to make heads or tails of it, you could send it to someone way smarter than you. How does that sound? Good? Well then.
