Grand Scheme

It may be just me who insists that everything must be towards an end. Perhaps this is a personal fault, but I will make it into an idea as is my want.

Big picture thinking is a blessing and curse. It may keep you on track but it can also lock you into horribly unconnected and unimportant ideals that cause you to miss everything that might come in between. So take this with a grain of salt is all.

I want you to come up with two things: an originary idea and a grand scheme. These are two different things. The idea at first is something you want, say to grow up and make movies. Think of this like the "what I wanna be when I grow up" question. Really starry-eyed and all. No worries, no doubts, just pure desire.

Once you have that you can probably come up with an execution scheme pretty easily. And this can be sort of unreal too, but it should at least sketch the places you should be going.

And the point of this is something like having those things in view all the time, changing as needed away from them, but still seeing the big stuff that dreampt you into the position you're in.

So say at college you starting thinking about doing something else and took a different path. Well then you can look at why you were in college and you can see some of how you got to where you are and what changed.

So maybe the originary idea moves around, layers in ways. You could have a 10th incarnation of this thing, v different form the start. What'll be important is to be able to see what each of the previous ones were and draw a little line through your life using them.

Maybe this will give you a way of existing the daily stuff momentarily to check how things are progressing in a grander sense. Sometimes that can be enough.
