RE:Appropriate

Part one today, part two soon.

I like non-traditional housing. I love the people live in warehouse space. In fact this is one of my favorite things of all time. My basic theory is that space conditions a lot of our thinking and living. Especially if we're talking about your home. Following from this, being in a totally unique space with its own wants and desire opens you up to an entirely new set of experiences, as compared to those who are living in the well apportioned and pre-determined space.

That said, how can you possibly get a new space with all the issues of zoning and making livable and all. What I'd like to see is a group to form to grab as many different types of places as they can and go through the necessary processes of making them livable but unique.

The idea would for this group to be dedicated to reclaiming abandoned or poorly used structures and making interesting and unique homes of them. And sure they could even turn a nice trendy profit.

At least, I would like a group to exist that figures out the necessary steps to do something like this and documents them. So like, lays out, that 1) you need to con the city into changing the zoning from business or whatever into a residence, including all the necessary forms and who you talk to about that. And 2) the basic steps to making some place livable that you might not think of. Like how to change a bathroom in a former fast food restaurant into a full bath for an apartment. Necessary plumbing and heating changes &c. Just a fully fleshed how to guide.

And then I would be happier.

I like this. Esp. the last part.

And the idea of living in a space that has brick walls indoors.
