Writing tabs

I'm going to stop prefacing posts that may already exist with, "this may already exist." It doesn't really matter. I don't know that it exists, and that's good enough for me. I can imagine a day when I hunt down every idea to make sure it hasn't already been thought of, but that day is not today.

So today's idea is for a small, 8 1/2 by 5 1/2 piece of hardware that attaches to the top or side of your laptop or computer monitor. It would need to be pretty thin, but essentially it's another monitor. And it attaches via USB. You can write on the screen on the hardware with your finger, a stylus, whatever. Then you can drag all that text down onto your monitor and it gets placed in a word document or whatever else you designate.

I want this for a couple of reasons: First of all, it gives you a little more monitor space. I know there are screens you can write on, but not like this. The text is in its own space and you bring it down when you're ready. It's just a place for you to take quick notes while you're doing something else, but it's always there.

Actually, let's change how this works. It doesn't attach to anything. It can just be in your lap.

And how is this different from other tabs you can write on? Well you can just drag the text over in real time. And then work with it. I could also envision this working for math equations. Write out an equation and drag it over to the laptop and it will calculate it for you. This would be easer than typing in an equation.

Anyway, just a thought.
