Tower of Power

What happened to the really big bands? You know, the ones with like fifteen members. I'd like to see someone give this a shot again. Tower of Power comes to mind as a model.

I was watching a performance by Justin Timberlake and there were about seventy people on stage with him, but it was very clearly not about them. Why shouldn't it be? If you're going to produce a studio album so much that you can't match the quality without a lot of support, why not just aim for that to begin with?

So let's see a new band with lots of members and instruments and no clear front man. This would be hard to sell because it's hard to market aa group of people as opposed to one charismatic individual. But this isn't about marketing.

Sort of like an orchestra?

Some bands are getting pretty big, though. Like Beirut. Or Arcade Fire. Or Broken Social Scene. Or the Reindeer Section.

Having lots of people in the band can def be a good thing.
