Brakes on cars should display how hard they are braking. It could be a uniform sliding scale of different colors. Or just simply increasing intensity.
But I think multiple colors would be cool. Plus with LED and stuff it should totally be doable. And we all have associations with colors. It could just be green, yellow, red and three shades of each.
