The representative from childhood has the floor

I like the way the Wall Street Journal writes about sports.

It's professional, not sarcastic, and refreshing. Totally unrelated, just wanted you to know. I often have lots of things I want you to know. You should know that.

So a good friend of mine has been faced with a very difficult decision for, oh, the last two months or so. Possibly longer. It's one of the situations where both options have their pros and cons and there isn't going to be a bolt of lightning that makes one make sense. It's gonna take some gut-wrenching thought. Shudder.

So I half jokingly suggested this idea to her: a committee of friends. You get people you trust like friends, parents, maybe a co-worker, someone you don't like (just for a different voice) and assign someone who can stay unbiased to sort of moderate the whole event. There would be snacks and agenda items. It's a big meeting. And the idea is to hash out everything that's influencing your decision. See it from all angles. If the committee can come to a decision, then so be it, they make it as a recommendation. If not, then the person with the decision to make has to weigh everything that's been talked about.

In some ways I think it would be best if the person being talked about wasn't there. Too much of the "we know what's good for you" feeling. And if someone took good notes then they could just review them after.

I think this needs to be reserved for the BIG decisions. You know, like if you should get Burger King for dinner.

(The committee decided you should get Burger King for dinner. And bring us some.)

great plan.

my committee is telling me to eat cookies for lunch, since all i've had today are mashed potatoes anyway.
