I can't say my suburban childhood was a sprinkler running marathon, but the option was always there. Having a front lawn helps, but not everyone has a lawn.
So, it seems pretty obvious that having public sprinklers to run through would make the world a better place. We have grassy parks already and they must get watered at some point. I know we're in a drought and all, but would it really be so bad if we turned the sprinkers on around mid-day every so often when it got really hot like it is today?
Even if some of the water evaporated before the plants could absorb it, we'd still be getting double duty out of it. If you wanted, you could even couple these equal opportunity sprinklers with like some kind of environmental awareness campaign. For example, you could have the sprinklers run for maybe 20 minutes and have a little sign explaining why they're not on for longer..? Not sure how exactly that would pan out, but still! Sprinklers, man!
Who wouldn't be happier running through a sprinkler right now? And happier people equals betterness in general. Yeah, betterness.
