Hotel Living

You know how Royal Tenenbaum in The Royal Tenenbaums lives in a Hotel? Well that totally used to be the case for so many people--especially bachelor males, and certainly any who appear in the novels I read.

Well I'm of the opinion that we recover this mode of life. And you may ask, rightly then, why it doesn't exist in as large a number today. The best I can offer is: pricing and community.

The first, as far as I can tell it is never economical to stay in a hotel (or motel) for a long period of time. There should definitely be month long stay discounts. This just makes sense. Buying in bulk should always be more valuable.

The second is that not all hotels have a dining establishment attached to them. My sense of this tradition is that it comes from an era when their were owner operated inns. When the owners would put people up like in a large B'n'B. But today there isn't anything like this. There is no sense (without extreme expense) of a hotel taking care of your needs like this.

It seems to me that this could open up a lot of opportunities for people who aren't really ready to have their own homes, don't need that much space or are sort of on the go. Certainly this stopped being common long ago at this point, but I think it could offer a few necessary freedoms to some of our people. And the choice should be out there.
