Fishing Line

Continuing the fishing theme from yesterday, the fact that fishing line doesn't biodegrade is a huge problem. It gets in people's boat engines, clogs water pumps, and most importantly, can seriously injure or kill wildlife.

Now, they do make a biodegradable fishing line. BUT it isn't of good quality. You apparently have to sacrifice strength and translucence to make it happen. Most fisher-types I know aren't ready to make that exchange.

So the idea is to come up with a better, biodegradable fishing line. Hell, make it the strongest, most invisible line ever. And also have it dissipate over the course of a year. Or a month. Or whatever.

One huge problem is that the line on your reel will get wet and start to fall apart itself, which is no good. So maybe the line only falls apart when it's soaking. Or just make it cheap so it isn't a big deal to replace. And get the reel manufacturers to develop a cartridge style reel where you don't have to respool every time you need more line. Just pop the old cartridge out, new one in, and go fish.
