Today is a two for one day. And it is another one of those days where Americans will benefit more than anyone else. Please excuse our bias. Oh, and really, everyone except the Japanese could benefit from this. You'll see why in a second.
The Japanese probably do a lot of things better than Americans. One thing I know they do better is gift-giving.
Today's two for one features two very simple ideas, one radical, one not so much .
First the not so much. Wrap your gift carefully and attractively. Apparently this is as important as the gift itself. I am a huge fan of meticulously wrapped gifts. It slows you down and makes whatever it is inside seem so much more special. And that's not so hard, is it? If it seems hard, find some instructions on the internet and practice. Practice you say? Yes, as in give more gifts. That's not a bad thing.
So the more radical concept...you don't open your gift in front of whoever gave it to you. I love this! How much does it suck to have to open gifts in front of people? What if you don't like it? Or what if there are a lot of gifts. That shit gets old. The only occasion in which you would open a gift in front of someone is if they absolutely insisted that you do. And even then you take your time with the nicely wrapped package.
Oh, it all sounds so nice and not consumer driven. The gesture and the humility is SO much more important than the actual gift. Let's get on this America. It's for the best.
