I'm going to resist any sense of artistic secrecy here and make today's idea something I would like to see produced artistically, preferably by me, but if not, fine. I'll continue preambling a bit more to say that I think a fictional form is an ideal place for this because it allow you to set controls and limitation ad to play it through like an experiment. This is in fact a view I have of fiction and not the idea.
The idea is for a story about a nascent three-way relationship. I think it would be endlessly fascinating to think through the possibility of create a reasonable and positive polygamous relationship. My hunch is certainly that it is not actually completely possible, but that it would be infinitely fun to watch.
This could even be a sitcom that starts with the three friends falling in love...no wait...initially meeting and then slowly staring this triangle affair. There would be a great first season full of obviously awkward episodes about first dates and first kisses. And the episode "A double too few" in which one of the characters goes on a comical bed buying trip when they realize that there is no way they'll all fit in the double bed.
Basically, how fun would it be to think about this horribly tricky emotional situation in terms of all the of the little practical realities that have to go into it? Perhaps the sitcom really is such an ideal form because it provides exactly the venue to nudge or dry hump the serious issues in a slow, silly and methodical way.
