This may fall into the category of "too simple".
Take a pen, and put it to paper. Let some original thoughts pour out. Actually, first, do this. Decide who you're going to be writing this letter to. That's what you're doing. Writing a letter, preferably to someone you haven't corresponded with in a while.
Be thoughtful in your penmanship and your spelling. Try to write some eloquent thoughts as best you can. (A little trick: If you do the first two things well, the third one will kind of take care of itself)
You're accomplishing a couple things by doing this. One, you're helping to save an art that isn't dead or dying, but let's face it, its been smoking all its life. Second, you're going to make someone feel really special. I can promise you that.
I'm tempted to suggest forming a regular pen pal program, and I may at some point, but start with this for now. Progress is progress is progress.
