Apparatus

The whole concept of the playground needs to be evaluated. I don't think kids are really that enthused by the same rings and bars and slides we've been trotting out for years. I won't go so far as to say that kids are fat because of the lame playground structures available to them, but I think it's a contributing factor.

When I was kid I had a rocket ship at my disposal. A rocket ship. But of course they eventually tore the thing down because it wasn't safe.

So what I want is a mandate from the government (State or Federal) that 50% of all school playground equipment must be replaced every three months. That means you'd have a new playground every six months. That might generate some interest. Also, all slides must have at least one curve. And every playground has to have a slide the terminates into a padded foam or ball pit. Oh, and there also has to be a ship (space, pirate, etc.) on every playground. No, scratch that. Two ships that face each other so they could have epic battles.

How excited would kids be on "new playground day"? Every three months they'd be out there seeing what awesome new slide or climbing wall they'd get to have. Talk about generating some interest.

Costly you say? Well, maybe. But we'll be mass producing this stuff because we'll be using more if it so the cost will come down some that way. Also, you could certify the schools maint. people to do the installation and save some more money. And finally, hopefully school districts would get together and sort out what was available and trade things that way to recycle the different pieces.
