A negative idea

So this idea would have been far more appropriate at the beginning of the football season, but here it is, a full month and a half in. The idea is to not participate in fantasy football, baseball, or sports of any kind.

I've tried to convince people of this in the real world and it hasn't gone well. so we're gonna try it here. I don't know what makes it seem like you can't enjoy sports without the fantasy element involved. Buy people, mostly guys, are freaking insane about it.

So I quit. Cold turkey. And I couldn't be happier.

The thing is, by their nature, fantasy sports prevent you from rooting for a team. You root for players. Who don't even need to win. They just need to put up numbers. Now maybe this is the way sports is headed. Where the fantasy industry drives the league and the rules and if the on-field team doesn't win, who cares? Maybe they'll stop having playoffs.

But anyway, I can personally tell you in feels pretty damn great to not care anymore. I can root for my teams to straight up win and I can live or die by the outcome. It feels a million times better. It might be hard to convince someone with words and logic but I'm here on the other side and I don't think I'm ever going back.

So there.

Friggin-a I totally agree! Last year during football season I have to say I was way more interested in individual players, and then sometimes it gets all weird when you're rooting for your receiver, but against the kicker on the same team cause the person your playing that week has the kicker. It just gets all fugly. Way better to just pick a team and be all in. Good for you, good for you.
