This is going to be hard to explain if you haven't played some old school video games.
In those games, if a map is involved, it's usually dark until you start exploring and "uncovering" different areas. So the areas where you've been are visible but all the new territory remains a mystery.
Why can't we have this feature on the internet? You start with a dark map as big or as small as you want. Could be your street, your city, your state, etc. It starts as just a dark outline of the pre-determined location.
The first thing you do is enter the places you've been. Maybe it's where you live or a restaurant you like to go to. Or a bar. Or your friend's house or a museum. And everytime you enter a new location, a new piece of the map opens up. Now obviously we'd need to be pretty generous with the area that expands with each location. It's unrealistic to think you could go to every business in the state if that's how big you started.
You could then share this map with friends and they could see how much you've got left to do, etc. And they could suggest places. And you'd have a handy map of places you'd never been. And it's somehow related to video games, which not unlike bacon, makes everything better.
