I think it's about time we started thinking about what to do with all those old VHS tapes we're going to have laying around. You know, do we recycle them, turn them into art, etc.
DVDs, though still super useful, will actually be easier to recycle because they can be turned into coasters or wall art or sharpened and thrown at friends.*
But VHS tapes? Yikes. I don't have a ton of good ideas on how to make these useful again but I do know I don't want them to end up in landfills. But I will post some of my ideas here, just for kicks.
- If you turn them over you could probably stick candles in the little white windy part. Burning tapes smell awful so, you know, be careful. I think they're also toxic. Maybe you could get the tape part out first.
- The old boxes, since they're white on the inside, could be cut up and made into postcards. I think that would be a pretty fun postcard to get.
- I guess them could still be coasters.
- If you could somehow truly hollow them out, they might make fun gift boxes.
Feel free to chime in with your ideas. Clearly though, something needs to be done.
*Don't do this.

have i ever mentioned my mother owns over a thousand VHS tapes? i dig the candle holder idea, but she don't need that many candle holders. let's make a deal: i sell you the tapes at a bulk discount and you can spend endless hours staring at and/or experimenting trying to come up with more novel ways to re-use them. and by sell you, i mean steal them from my mother as she refuses to get rid of them or the beta tape machine for that matter. help, please.
