Your Computer Alone

Computers have come along way from the word processing and calculating engines they used to be. There was a point, probably around 2003, when I realized that I didn't have anything I wanted to do on my computer if it didn't have the internet. Now it is time to go back...

Internetless computer.

I think there is some work that can be done here. I think that some people don't want to share their stuff, not only out of paranoia, but because it is their stuff. I feel like the focus of the internet these days is all about cooperation. What about personal creations? Isn't there a market for a device that is tailored to that?

My reals points are this:

- Computer makers have stopping thinking about the ways a device can be useful by itself without internet powers. It would be useful to think about this again. Computer are most peoples primary work tools. There have to be so many things that they could do. I think it would be valuable to create one with the idea that that is no internet ever available to spur the creation of these useful things in a single devices.

- Some people and some things should be kept off the net, completely personal and completely secure. I think you could do some really interesting hardware things with a computer that doesn't access the internet at all. (Sometimes hobbling a creature allows it to develop its other potentials). You could have a design with exactly zero ports or plugs (power, tho you could work on wireless power). It would be impossible to hack. Because there isn't any access to it.

I really like this idea. Tho I know it runs counter to everything the tech world is doing and counter to a lot of my own ideas. But this should be an option and it could be a really good one.
